How to Get here
By Ferry
BC Ferries offers service to Haida Gwaii year round via Prince Rupert.
If you are traveling from Vancouver Island, ferries leave from Port Hardy and travel to Prince Rupert via Bella Bella. The ferry service travels overnight and takes approximately 22 hours. There are sleeping cabins available on the ferry, but these must be booked in advance.
If you are traveling from mainland B.C. ferries leaves Prince Rupert and travel to Skidegate. The ferry takes approximately 6-8 hours depending on the weather. You must make a reservation! However, if you are on stand-by, 9 times out of 10 you’ll make it on the ferry.
By Car
From Haida Gwaii
Driving from Skidegate, take Yellowhead Highway E to Naikoon Provincial Park. The drive is 123 km and takes approximately 2 hours. You will need to drive past Masset.
Driving from Masset, take Towhill Road east. The drive is 26 km and takes approximately 40 minutes. Drive until you pass Agate Beach, you will see Tow Hill in the distance, keep driving until you pass the Tow Hill parking lot, drive over the Hiellen bridge. Keep right at the fork in the road, take your first left into the campground.
Driving from Sandspit, you will need to take a 20min ferry to Skidegate.
From Mainland B.C.
Driving from Vancouver to Prince Rupert, take BC-1 East/Trans-Canada Hwy to Hope, then BC-97 North/Cariboo Hwy to Prince George. From Prince George take BC-16 West/Trans-Canada Hwy to Prince Rupert. The drive is approximately 1,700 km. You will then have to take a 6hour ferry ride on BC FERRIES.
From Vancouver Island
Driving from Victoria to Port Hardy, take BC-1 North/Island Hwy to Nanaimo, then take BC-19 North to Port Hardy. The drive is approximately 500 km and takes roughly five and a half hours.
By Air
The main airport on Haida Gwaii is located in Sandspit, on Moresby Island. A secondary airport is located in Masset, on Graham Island, but is smaller in size.
If you are traveling from Vancouver, Pacific Coastal Airlines offers flights to Masset. Air Canada also offers a flight from Vancouver to Sandspit. Pacific Coastal Airlines is our preferred provider. You will need a mode of transportation to get from the airport to Hiellen Village. Taxi services can be intermittent.
Float plane and helicopter flights are also available, depending on time of year. Inland Air offers multiple flights per week from Prince Rupert, BC to Masset, Haida Gwaii.
